Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Hot dip galvanizing or galvanizing is carried out by immersing the workpiece in molten zinc, the temperature of which is about 450° C.

The reaction between iron and zinc occurs to form an iron-zinc alloy. The thickness of the coating layer depends on the time the object is in liquid zinc, the temperature of the zinc and the silicon (Si) content in the steel.

By varying the immersion duration, it is possible to adjust the thickness of the zinc layer within a certain range and provide a coating that meets the customer’s requirements.

The advantages of hot-dip galvanizing are: durable protection, affordable prices, and the possibility of galvanizing internal surfaces.

Zn Metals has the largest in Latvia galvanazing bath installed. Bath dimensions: 10,500 х 2900 х 1400 mm (length, depth und width).

We are capable of galvanizing metal structures up to 13 m long!

The galvanization method was patented as earlier as in 19th centuary. Over time, zinc has established itself as the best coating material to protect steel products against corrosion.

Passivation

Zn Metals is the only hot-dip galvanizing company in Latvia that offers its customers additional metal protection – passivation.

During passivation, a post-processing layer is formed that protects the metal from oxidation of zinc or the formation of “white rust”.
The Brite Seal passivation system consists of two components: A and B.

Component A is a water-based silicate mixture that is catalyzed to react with zinc and CO2 in the air. This creates a chemical bond that provides a particularly thin but very durable protective layer.

Component B consists of a water-based silane mixture that changes the chemical structure of the thin protective layer and makes it hydrophobic (water-repellent).

This reduces the risk of Brite Seal dissolving/degrading due to early environmental exposure.

Painting

Painting after galvanizing or the so-called Duplex system provides additional protection for structures in aggressive environments, and is also used as an aesthetic solution to ensure that the appearance of structures meets certain environmental requirements.

We paint metal structures using the spray method, using epoxy or polyurethane paints in the shade chosen by the customer.

We can provide painting of structures up to 16 m in length. Depending on the customer’s requirements, we provide painting of both galvanized and untreated surfaces. By choosing the most suitable paint composition, as well as carefully preparing the surface of structures, we ensure high-quality results and durability of the paint.

After galvanizing, it is necessary to carry out the duplex coating process as soon as possible to prevent oxidation of the zinc surface and increase the service life of the product.

The optimal time between galvanizing and duplex coating may depend on specific conditions and requirements, but it is advisable not to exceed 8 hours after galvanizing.

Shot blasting is the process of removing contaminants, oxidation, or coatings from the surface of a material by directing a stream of fine abrasive particles under high pressure.

We use this method to clean and prepare surfaces before hot-dip galvanizing, structural painting or other types of work.

Shot blasting

In other to ensure a full cycle of processing of metal structures, we offer shot blasting preparation of the surface of metal structures for further processing. The condition of the surface of structures is of significant importance during their further treatment with various coatings.

Proper cleaning and preparation improves the adhesion of the metal surface to the coating material, which, in turn, further improves the protective ability of the metal and extends the life of the structure.

In the shot blasting process, we use steel shot with a diameter of 0.46-1.18 mm, as a result of which we obtain metal structures with a surface suitably prepared for further processing. We can provide shot blasting for structures up to 16 m in length. We also offer shot blasting for galvanized structures.

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a method in which a layer of powder paint is applied to a metal surface. This method provides an even coating that is resistant to scratches and corrosion.

In metalworking production, powder coating is widely used as an alternative to wet painting because the finish is more durable than traditional painting methods.

The advantage of Zn Metals SIA is the application of powder paint to galvanized surfaces. The powder coating line is located next to the galvanizing line, which makes it possible to quickly transport structures between lines, preventing oxidation of the galvanized metal and providing high-quality coating.

Zn Metals SIA works using high-class equipment – Gimeco, Wagner and Romer. Oven dimensions: 1500mm – 6000 mm x 1950 mm.

An electric arc metallizer is a device used to apply protective coatings to surfaces made of various materials, usually metal ones.

The metallization process is based on the creation of an electric arc discharge between a wire electrode and the main surface.

Metallization

Metallization is a method of thermal spraying in which heated zinc is applied to a previously prepared metal surface. Metallization, like hot-dip galvanizing, forms a durable zinc coating that protects the metal against corrosion, as well as against mechanical stress.

During the metallization process, it is possible to obtain the desired coating thickness regardless of the composition of the metal; in addition, there is no need to make process holes for metal structures and there is no risk of thermal deformation.

This method can also be used in cases where only part of the structure needs to be zinc coated or where different thicknesses of the zinc layer are required in certain areas.

The size of treated structures is not limited.
